Abstract

In order to rehabilitate themselves, adults with acquired blindness choose to learn the Braille System, they manage to write it, but nevertheless they show significant difficulty in reading it. In view of the circumstances described above, the objective of this research was to propose the Perceiving Braille Program to improve reading fluency in adults with blindness. Research framed in the quantitative approach, with a non-experimental design, feasible project type, with a descriptive level. The sample consisted of 10 adults with blindness acquired during their life cycle. The data collection technique was direct observation and the instruments used were the video and the Spanish Reading Fluency Scale checklist. The results obtained indicate that the reading fluency level, as well as the speed and prosody dimensions are at an inadequate level. However, the accuracy dimension has a good level, since the reader displays great attention to recognize words; this behavior is generally manifested in readers who are not very fluent. Among the conclusions, the Perceiving Braille Program was proposed to promote improvements in the reading fluency of adults with blindness.
