Abstract

Heavy torrential rains highlight the need for constantly improving management and resilience mechanisms. The objective was to synthesize the evidence generated in recent years on resilience strategies to rainfall in Latin America. Using the PRISMA methodology, 20 final studies were selected for analysis from an initial 532 records based on inclusion criteria. The resilience strategies identified were classified into categories: community or social resilience; risk management and governance resilience; resilient infrastructure and nature-based solutions; and sectoral adaptation and production systems. These indicators show that resilience to rainfall does not depend on a single action, but rather benefits from joint efforts among communities, institutions, infrastructure, and production systems. In this sense, the main urgent strategies that need strengthening in the future are community training, expanding access to specialized climate information, optimizing early warning systems, and promoting citizen participation in risk management to improve the immediate response to extreme rainfall.
