Abstract

This review article, written in an essay format, examines the impact of fashion on health and its role in social development from an interdisciplinary perspective. Through the analysis of specialized bibliographic sources in sociology, psychology, medicine, and economics, the study explores the effects that fashion trends may have on individuals' physical and mental well-being, as well as their influence on identity construction and sociocultural dynamics. The benefits of fashion as a means of personal and cultural expression, its impact on self-esteem, and its role in shaping social norms are discussed. However, the study also addresses the risks associated with the imposition of unattainable aesthetic standards, the use of garments harmful to health, and social pressure that may lead to body image disorders and psychological issues. Additionally, the economic dimension of fashion is analyzed, highlighting its influence on globalization, consumerism, and working conditions in the textile industry. Based on this review, the need to promote a more conscious and sustainable approach to fashion consumption is proposed, encouraging responsible practices in the design, production, and commercialization of clothing. Finally, the study reflects on the importance of fashion education that fosters both individual and collective well-being, balancing creativity and personal identity with health considerations and social impact.
