Strengthening environmental sustainability has become a strategic challenge for higher education institutions, particularly in the context of climate change, energy crises, and the growing demand for responsible development models that protect natural resources. In this context, the aim of this study was to diagnose institutional environmental practices and propose guidelines for the incorporation of alternative energy sources to support institutional sustainability at the Instituto Superior Tecnológico de Formación Profesional Administrativa y Comercial. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach supported by quantitative elements through a descriptive–propositional design. Data collection techniques included semi-structured interviews with institutional authorities and administrative staff, non-participant observation of institutional facilities, and documentary analysis of environmental policies and regulations. The results revealed opportunities for improvement in energy resource management, waste management practices, and the efficient use of water and paper, as well as the need to strengthen environmental awareness within the academic community. Based on the institutional diagnosis, strategic guidelines were proposed to promote environmental good practices and the use of alternative energy sources as mechanisms to reduce the institutional environmental footprint and encourage sustainable resource management.
