Abstract

The study of leadership has transcended the organizational domain to integrate ethical and theological perspectives. However, the specialized literature reveals a gap in the connection between Old Testament wisdom narratives and the foundations of resilient leadership in contexts of adversity. This article aims to understand the influence of the great conflict on leadership through an interpretive analysis of the prologue of the book of Job. Methodologically, a qualitative study with a documentary design of hermeneutic orientation was conducted, employing thematic content analysis on Job 1–2 and a systematic review of specialized literature. BibleWorks 10 software was used to perform a morpho-semantic analysis of Hebrew roots. As a result, three categories emerged: celestial conflict as a revealer of authenticity, (in which progressive trials expose the leaders' underlying motivation): forensic integrity, (in which Job’s righteousness is declared by God and sustained without self-defense); and delegated sovereignty, (in which the adversary operates under divine limits while Job perseveres without knowledge of the conflict's celestial origin). It is concluded that the conflict reveals the authenticity of the leaders' character, and that ethical integrity does not depend on immediate social recognition, but on sustained coherence in calamity. Accordingly, Job’s narrative provides qualities for leadership grounded in character and disinterested service.
