Abstract

The work’s objective was to study the strategies used by teachers for teaching multiplication in Primary Education students. This research assumes the field modality supported by the documentary review, descriptive level, under the quantitative approach, with a non-experimental design. The population was constituted for 4th 5th and 6th grade student of the Subsistema de Educación Primaria in the Escuela Básica “Joaquín Crespo” of San Juan de los Morros (Guárico state, Venezuela). Data collection was a result of direct observation and interview. The information analysis techniques were the categorization and triangulation, as a result, of the observation and the application test. In addition, the diagnosis of the observations showed that teachers continue works with a traditional teaching of the multiplication. They neglect the application of strategies that lead the student to achieve knowledge acquisition. In conclusion, the cognitive processes categories, interactivity and participation should be strengthened as fundamental aspects in the development of creative strategies, in orden to adequate adaptation of the knowledge of the multiplication process.
