Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a pedagogical proposal based on visual arts to enhance creativity and artistic expression in elementary school students. The intervention was applied to a representative sample of 384 children between 10 and 12 years of age from the Cristobal Colon School, using a quasi experimental pretest posttest design. Five structured sessions were developed that included activities such as expressive drawing, emotional painting, symbolic collage, group mural and aesthetic reflection. The quantitative results revealed a significant improvement in the creative perception of the participants, going from a mean of 3 to 4 on the evaluated scale. Likewise, 87 of the students rated the experience as excellent. At a qualitative level, the testimonies collected showed greater expressive confidence, enjoyment of the process and emotional recognition through art. It is concluded that the pedagogical strategies in visual arts have a positive impact on the integral development of students, by fostering cognitive, emotional and communicative skills from an inclusive and active perspective.
