Abstract

Objective: This systematic review examines the scientific literature published between 2020 and 2025 to determine how the relationship between digital transformation and business efficiency has been studied. The evidence was integrated through a narrative synthesis, and the identification, selection, and reporting process was organized in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Methodology: Scopus, Web of Science, and SciELO were searched. Of the 273 records initially identified, 63 were duplicates; 210 records were then screened, and 25 documents were included in the final synthesis. The main analysis was based on 20 empirical studies published in scientific journals, while five secondary, conceptual, or non-peer-reviewed sources were used to broaden the context and identify trends and research gaps. Results: Overall, the reviewed studies more frequently describe favorable relationships between digital transformation and outcomes associated with process optimization, productivity, decision-making, and organizational performance. However, these associations are not homogeneous; they vary according to digital maturity, technological capabilities, leadership, organizational culture, innovation, and sector-specific characteristics. The review also identifies a shortage of longitudinal and qualitative studies, limited representation from Latin America, and insufficient integration of technological, financial, and human indicators. Conclusions: The available evidence supports understanding digital transformation as a strategic and organizational process that goes beyond the mere adoption of digital tools.
