Theoretical foundations of organizational development and environmental culture in the field of health care.

Introduction: Organizational development and environmental culture are strategic dimensions for strengthening management, sustainability, and quality of services in health institutions. Their articulation makes it possible to understand how organizational change processes, human talent participation, and responsible environmental practices can contribute to institutional performance and environmental protection. Objective: To characterize the theoretical foundations of organizational development and environmental culture in the field of health, considering their relationship with health management, institutional sustainability, and continuous improvement of services. Materials and methods: A qualitative, documentary, narrative review study was conducted, based on the analysis of primary and secondary sources related to organizational development, environmental culture, sustainability, and health management. The information was organized through review, selection, interpretive analysis, and theoretical triangulation of the main conceptual contributions. Results: Organizational development is grounded in theories focused on change, adaptation, continuous learning, and the improvement of institutional effectiveness, while environmental culture is based on values, beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors aimed at environmental conservation. In the health sector, both approaches promote more efficient, participatory, and sustainable institutions capable of responding to current administrative, social, and environmental challenges. Conclusions: Organizational development and environmental culture should be understood as complementary axes in health management. Their integration strengthens institutional sustainability, staff well-being, service quality, and the implementation of environmentally responsible practices.
