Abstract

Introduction: Immunization is an essential component of human rights, being a strategic component in terms of prevention among health systems worldwide due to the high benefit it generates for populations and at the same time, immunization has passed to occupy a central place as one of the driving forces behind efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. The research addressed the issue of the determinants that affect the abandonment of the vaccination system by the mothers of children under 23 months of age. Objective: to establish the health determinants that influenced the abandonment of the vaccination program in children between 12 and 23 months of age who attended the "Naranjal" Health Center. Methodology: The research was quantitative with a retrospective design, cross-sectional and descriptive. To obtain the data, an observation sheet was prepared, validated by the judgment of health experts, qualifying and applying clear criteria of validity, relevance and coherence. The statistical program that was used was the IBM SPSS version 22. Results: they showed that the lack of knowledge about the benefits and a low level of training of the mothers are the determinants of this problem being prolonged. Conclusion: it is suggested to work on communication and awareness plans to eradicate this problem, which is non-compliance with the vaccination schedule.
