Introduction: Malignant skin tumors are the most frequent and, although they are not among the top ten causes of death from cancer, they do cause deformities and functional impairment. This is due to the fact that most appear on skin sites exposed to the sun (the face, around the eyes and mouth, ears, among others). Objective: To determine the risk factors that predispose to the appearance of skin cancer. Methodology: It is constituted in a documentary research, both bibliographical and digital. Results: the pre-disposition to suffer skin cancer underlies endogenous factors (internal factors of the individual) race, diet, habits, sex, family and personal history, phototype, moles and exogenous factors (external factors to the individual), exposure to rays ultraviolet, chemicals and smoking. Conclusion: The main risk factor for developing skin cancer are the so-called ultraviolet rays from sunlight, which produce mutations in the DNA of cells that accumulate over years. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the white-skinned population.
