Fulfillment of the Biosafety Norms in laboratories of the Universidad Técnica de Machala

Objective: Establish compliance with biosafety standards by professionals who work in the laboratories of the Faculty of Chemical and Health Sciences of the Technical University of Machala. Materials and Methods: This research is descriptive, with a quantitative approach. The modality of the investigation is field. The population consisted of 100 students who use the different laboratories of the Faculty of Chemical and Health Sciences of the Technical University of Machala. Results: 59% of the population answered yes, they have received training on biosafety standards in the institution and 41% answered no. 73% of students comply with biosafety measures in the laboratory. Hand washing is carried out, with an equivalent to 39% for After having contact with any type of materials, biological samples, solid products, substances or reagents. On whether there are discard containers for contaminated items, and they are duly identified, which corresponds to 46.9%. To the question about what materials are deposited in the guards giving an equivalent of 43% for the Syringes, scalpel, however, the Lancets, needles. Conclusions: It was possible to determine that the large part of the population studied if they comply with biosafety standards.
