Abstract

Introduction: To generate a theoretical knowledge of the nursing professional responsibility in the blood components administration can avoid errors in the products selection and administration. Can prevent and control possible complications, allow the performance of the technique in a systematic way, improve the patient assessment during the technique performance and encourage the incidents recording in the nursing history. Objective: To explore the nursing professional responsibility in the blood components administration at the Dr. Israel Ranuarez Balza Hospital in San Juan de los Morros, Guárico state, Venezuela. Materials and methods: It was framed in the interpretive paradigm with the qualitative research ethnographic method support, the knowledge and understanding relationship was articulated, involving the subject and the environment as the activity object. Results: It allowed improving the care quality provided to the patient, which requires the performance-nursing professional constantly update, this will be in accordance with the requirements given by the care complexity provided to the patient that requires a therapy, which complies with the internal rules established by the blood bank. Conclusions: In the hospital, it is necessary to implement educational actions in order to increase, significantly, the knowledge of the nursing professionals, to keep it updated and sensitized in such outstanding aspects as the nurse’s responsibility in their daily work practice.
