Validation of the instrument to determine influence of weaning in the integral development of the child up to 12 months and the mother's perception regarding the duration of breastfeeding

Abstract

Introduction: Breastfeeding has positive effects for both mother and baby, as it is associated with many health benefits. There are factors such as weaning that influence the development and growth of the child, as well as factors that influence the decision to continue or discontinue breastfeeding. Objective: To develop, design and validate an instrument that provides data to determine the influence of weaning on the integral development of the child up to 12 months of age and the mother's perception of the duration of breastfeeding. Materials and Methods: The present research study has a non-experimental design, mixed approach (quantitative-qualitative), longitudinal panel design, descriptive, prospective, applied. Type of field research, pilot study of 10 infants from a population, for the validation of the quantitative instrument (observation guides), there were 6 experts and for the qualitative (in-depth interview), 6 health experts, rating Validity, Relevance and Coherence, rating out of 100. Result: For the first instrument it has a reliability score of 100, in cronbach's alpha a coefficient of 100 and for the second instrument it has a reliability score of 100; in cronbach's alpha a coefficient of 100, which means a very reliable range. The quantitative instrument helps to know aspects of the integral development of the child, such as weight, height and also the neuro-cognitive development of the infant. Conclusion: Both instruments proved to be very reliable for their application.  In the qualitative instrument, all the interviewees shared their experiences and emotions when they started breastfeeding and what they observed in the growth of their child.
