Knowledge on basic cardiopulmonary resusciation of the adult in student of the sixth semester of the nursing career

Abstract

Introduction: Ischemic heart disease and stroke are register among the main causes of mortality worldwide. Objective: To determine the knowledge about basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation of adults in students of the sixth semester of the nursing career, University of Guayaquil, Ecuador, AprilAugust 2019 period. Materials and methods: The quantitative, analytical and descriptive type paradigm was used, the population was 200 sixth semesters´ students, the sampling was not probabilistic and the sample was made up of 103 students. The technique was the survey and the instrument was a questionnaire. Results: Only 21.3% of the students know the correct survival chain outside the hospital environment and within the hospital environment is known by 54.5%. The 88.3% of the students have knowledge about the ventilation compression ratio. The 22.3% of students have an update to perform a correct evaluation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The 100% of students express the lack of adequate simulators in laboratories and a few hours of laboratory practices. A 95.1% state
that there is little experience of teachers in the chair and 74.7% mentioned that the methodology used is not adequate. Conclusions: The linking of theory with the practice of cardiopulmonary resuscitation technique is essential for the development for the future graduate, so that the relationship between appropriate methodologies led by a teacher with mastery of theory and practice would be an optimal
triad for student preparation.
