Abstract

Introduction: The sleep-rest functional pattern describes if the person is able to get to sleep, rest or relax all day long,
attending even the level of energy, it has during it. Objective: To determine the factors that may be influencing the first semester Degree in Nursing students’ sleeping-rest functional pattern alteration at the State University of Milagro. Materials and Methods: The study is non-experimental, using a cross-sectional research method. A sample of 41 students (32 women and 9 men) was select. As to the research technique, the survey was choose and as a tool, one questionnaire was apply. Results: it was find that 71% reported having a poor
subjective quality of sleep, while 63% did not sleep the minimum recommended hours for adequate rest and 100% reported signs of daytime somnolence at some time and at different levels. Conclusions: the option that one of the factors that produce the students functional sleep-rest pattern alteration are their academic activities was exclude, because they comply with an adequate schedule
for carrying them out. This alteration attends to other factors such as having part-time and full-time jobs, including the way they eat, the high consumption of sugary or caffeinated products. Moreover, the time they unnecessarily lose in extracurricular activities.
